Remindly, a gift-giving app

Remindly helps people pick thoughtful gifts automatically, by combining a short quiz, optional data imports (wishlists and social hints), and calendar-based reminders with precise budget controls.

My role
End to end: problem framing, target users, jobs to be done, competitive scan, wireframes and an interactive onboarding prototype.
Users
Three archetypes: the Planner, the Last-Minute Giver, the Thoughtful Partner.
Methods
Persona sketches · jobs-to-be-done framing · competitive analysis · user flow · lo/mid-fi wireframing
Tools
Figma for wireframes and the clickable prototype.
Core flow
Welcome → add a recipient (3-question quiz) → see 3 ideas → save one.
Status
Concept with an interactive wireframe. Next step would be usability testing the quiz with real gift-givers.
01 · FRAMING

Problem, insight, solution

Problem

People want to give meaningful gifts but often forget dates, overspend, or panic-buy items.

Insight

When choices are framed by recipient identity (likes, constraints) and event context (birthday vs. anniversary) within a budget, decision friction drops and confidence rises.

Solution

A guided, privacy-respecting gift assistant that remembers essential dates, learns recipient preferences, and proposes 3–5 high-fit ideas with links and price checks.

02 · TARGET USERS

Three people who give gifts very differently

Line illustrations of three personas: a thoughtful planner, a stressed last-minute giver, and a partner holding a rose and a gift.

The Planner

26–40, busy professional

Needs: never miss dates, set budgets, and plan.
Pain points: scattered reminders, too many tabs, indecision.

The Last-Minute Giver

18–35, student or early career

Needs: fast, good-enough picks today under $50.
Pain points: forgetfulness, analysis paralysis.

The Thoughtful Partner

25–55, relationship-focused

Needs: high-fit, sentimental ideas; track hints year-round.
Pain points: repeating gifts, uncertainty about preferences.

03 · JOBS TO BE DONE

What people are hiring the app to do

Occasion

When a gifting occasion approaches, help me quickly shortlist 3–5 ideas within my budget so that I feel confident and on time.

Recipient

When I add a new recipient, help me capture their tastes in 2 minutes so that my suggestions feel personal.

Budget

When I set a budget, help me track total spend across recipients so that I stay on target.
04 · COMPETITION

Everyone solves one piece of it

The opportunity is to unify dates, recipient modeling, budget and ready-to-buy ideas in one place. No existing tool does all four.

Giftster

Strong list-sharing; weaker personalization.

Amazon Lists

Broad inventory; low sentiment or personal touch.

Pinterest Boards

Inspiration, but not occasion-aware.

Card and calendar apps

Date tracking; no idea generation.

05 · Onboarding flow

Welcome → add a recipient → see three ideas → save one

The first-run flow is the whole product in miniature: a three-question quiz captures who the recipient is, what to avoid, and the budget, then Remindly shows three ideas with a reason for each.

Five onboarding wireframe screens: welcome, add a person, and three quick questions about fit, things to avoid, and budget.
Three wireframe screens: add your partner's name, confirmation that the recipient was added, and three gift ideas with prices.
06 · WHAT I'D DO NEXT

Test the quiz before building anything else

The riskiest assumption is that three questions are enough to produce a suggestion that feels personal. I'd run five to eight moderated sessions with people who have a gift due in the next month, watch them complete onboarding, and measure whether they'd actually save one of the three ideas.
